Microsoft must be pleased to learn that most of their OEMs are buying into the vision of building 2-in-1 devices. Companies such as HP, Lenovo, Nextbook etc., have all built 2-in-1s and now joining the race is ASUS with its Transformer 3 Pro. For those of you who do not know what a 2-in-1 is; it is a laptop which can also become a tablet by simply detaching the keyboard- just like the Surface Pro by Microsoft. This has to be the most convenient idea in terms of mobility because it allows you to work anywhere, whether it be at home, in the office or on the move.
Asus recently launched its 2-in-1 with the cool name “Transformer 3 Pro” which resembles the Surface Pro 4. Microsoft seems to have no problem being copied by ASUS—we know this because ASUS has had no rejection over the device from the Redmond Company even after the device was launched in India. Although the device seems to look exactly like the Surface Pro 4, it is set to rival the same device.
Speaking of cool, ASUS may have went for the same design as the Surface Pro 4 but they could not resist claiming the cool tag by adding a metallic finish to the device and making it as thin as 0.32 inches and 0.798 kg light. And just when you think they are done, they loaded the device with some mean hardware. The device can be maxed with the following options; Intel Core i7 Processor, 16 GB RAM, 1TB PCIe SSD, Thunderbolt 3 port, 12.6-inch screen with 2,880×1,920-pixel resolution, 275-pixel density, and infrared front Cam for the biometric login using Windows Hallo
ASUS weren’t shy to name their price when they launched the device in India, they put a 144,990.00 INR (R 28,987,51) price tag on it and that’s just the starting price. The one thing that might ease the pressure after reading the price tag should be the fact that Transformer 3 Pro has the active pen and keyboard included in the package deal. With that price tag, I think only time will tell if the ASUS is a threat to the Surface Pro.
